Serzh Sargsyan's office does not clarify several critical issues regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

To inform the public as much as possible about the settlement process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its history, Radar Armenia recently sent a request to the office of the 3rd President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, asking to clarify several circumstances in this regard.

We first asked the third president why it was impossible to reach a compromise settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue after the April 2016 war. Did the NK political elite disagree with the possible solutions on the table? In this regard, we quoted the Speaker of the Nagorno-Karabakh Parliament, Artur Tovmasyan, in 2020. the following statement was made on November 28: "After the April 2016 war, the third president of RA, Serzh Sargsyan, and the former president of the Republic of Armenia, Bako Sahakyan, met with 22 deputies. Serzh Sargsyan urged us to agree to the surrender of seven districts. We said that the Madrid principles do not express the fundamental interests of the Armenian people. He also said that you had heard the song "Ghars, Ghars" many times; if you refuse the principles of Madrid, you will one day hear the song "Stepanakert, Stepanakert." He said very harshly. I remembered those words of Serzh Sargsyan on November 9, when Stepanakert was empty and deserted, and the enemy was several kilometers away from the city.

The next question in this regard was whether the "Krakowiak" proposals presented in January 2018 promised a balanced solution and whether there were sufficient prerequisites for their implementation. Finally, did the third president of RA think that in the sum of the above questions and the answers to be given, it was possible to avoid the war of 2020 and implement the negotiation package on the table?

Although Serzh Sargsyan's office responded to Radar Armenia's inquiry quite quickly, it refrained from substantive and concrete answers. In particular, the office informed that Sargsyan has repeatedly referred to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict negotiation process in his public statements, interviews, speeches, articles, and press conferences. According to the office manager, the answers to the above questions can be found in those materials. Furthermore, the office provided various links to Serzh Sargsyan's speeches, interviews, and articles suggesting that Sargsyan answered the above questions.

While appreciating the practice of unhindered working with the media of the third president's office, it is unfortunate that we receive a general answer to questions that are clear, essentially and arising from each other and are directed to interviews and speeches, where, unfortunately, there are no answers to the mentioned questions. In which speech, consultation, or article did Serzh Sargsyan talk about the meetings he had with the military-political leadership of Artsakh after the April 2016 war and their content in general, and in the context of Artur Tovmasyan's statement in particular? After all, when did Serzh Sargsyan reveal the "Krakow" proposals and evaluate them, especially if we consider his speech during the election of the RA Prime Minister in April 2018, that the settlement of the conflict is at an impasse?

The office of the third president would have provided an excellent service to the citizens who wanted to know the truth about the Nagorno-Karabakh issue by clearly showing what Sargsyan said about the mentioned issues. We hope such clarification will be made shortly.
