"This morning, it became clear that Armenia is participating in terrorist activities, blowing up a bridge in Crimea. It is not that Armenia participates. Still, it turns out there can be a cargo of explosives in the customs terminal of Armenia for four days, which can be formalized with legal documents and sent to the EAEU territory.
The author of these words is not the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the Security Service of Azerbaijan Director, Ali Nagiyev, or the Minister of Defense, Zakir Hasanov.
The author of these words is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia who not long ago held relatively high positions in the country: Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly and Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. We are talking about Artak Zakaryan from RPA.
And now a former high-ranking official blames Armenia for terrorism, more specifically, for blowing up the Crimean bridge. Please pay attention: he blames not the authorities, not individual citizens, but the state of Armenia. And he presents the accusation as a final verdict, a proven fact, but without giving concrete evidence.
Usually, even law enforcement officers do not call the author of the most horrific crime that happened before everyone's eyes a criminal; they do not post that label as a final verdict.
Meanwhile, Artak Zakaryan, on the contrary, presents the most severe accusation of an entire country, thus equating Armenia with the Islamic State, "Hezbollah," "Al Qaeda," and other terrorist organizations.
So, does Artak Zakaryan realize the danger of his words? Does he understand what kind of cards he is giving to Azerbaijan with such accusations, which for years tried to present Armenia as an aggressor country in the international arena, and now he is talking about the unknown graves and minefields of several thousand Azerbaijanis who died as a result of the first Karabakh war. Does Mr. Artak Zakaryan realize the seriousness of these issues, or is he ready to cross all possible boundaries in the internal political struggle? Does he know that his words can be turned into a banner by the Azerbaijani propaganda machine and used against Armenia?
There is a famous saying: politics is immorality. It turns out that the RPA official took this phrase literally and is now trying to prove it in practice, without looking at who he benefits, to have a new opportunity to insult the authorities.
Unfortunately, we can assume that the calculation of the former official is simple: to take advantage of the West's recent activity in regulating Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the detonation of the Crimean bridge and to cause unnecessary tension in Armenian-Russian relations with such statements.
The RA authorities have made many mistakes and deserve criticism for them. However, trying to accuse the country of terrorism did not even occur to Robert Kocharyan and ARF members.
