On August 1, 2023, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, YSU, together with the UNESCO Chair for the Prevention and Education of Genocide and Other Mass Crimes and several non-governmental organizations of the Republic of Artsakh, applied the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Genocide Prevention, Alice Vairimu Nderitu.
With the application, a comprehensive report was presented to the Special Adviser on the international crimes committed in Artsakh due to the illegal blockade of the Berdzor (Lachin) corridor of the Republic of Artsakh. In particular, the report analyzes in detail the severe and massive violations of human rights and international humanitarian law by Azerbaijan and its representatives, based on ethnic origin. The report substantiates that the blockade of the Berdzor (Lachin) corridor is an international crime from the first day, specifically a crime against humanity, which in 2023, after June 15, turned into genocide. The crime of genocide, among other things, is carried out by deliberately creating such conditions of life aimed at the complete physical destruction of the people of Artsakh.
The report presents facts that the genocidal intention of Azerbaijan is the destruction of the ethnic Armenians of Artsakh as such, which has been directly expressed many times at the highest political level in Azerbaijan.
The crime of genocide in Artsakh is carried out in the context of the state genocidal policy of ethnic discrimination against Armenians, Armenophobia.
Accordingly, we asked the Special Adviser to consider the possibility of launching the early warning mechanism under his mandate, presenting the crisis of the Republic of Artsakh to the UN Secretary-General's attention and the Security Council through him.
