A session of the Security Council was convened on January 11 under the leadership of Artsakh Republic President Arayik Harutyunyan, in which representatives of all political forces of the National Assembly of Armenia participated.
The consequences of the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh that lasted almost a month due to the blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and the high-level political statements made in recent days regarding it were discussed.
Statement of the Security Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"It's been almost a month since a group of so-called eco-activists blocked the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia, with the full and open support of the current authorities of Azerbaijan. With such actions, the Azerbaijani side has practically deprived the population of the Artsakh Republic of the only opportunity to communicate with the outside world, leaving the 120,000 people in a complete blockade, with all the resulting humanitarian, health, and economic consequences.
The thoughts expressed by the President of Azerbaijan during the press conference held on January 10 of this year proved once again that all this is nothing but an obvious manifestation of the use of threats of force by the Azerbaijani authorities in the process of settlement of the Karabakh problem, which is the continuation of the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh Republic in 2020.
In the context of these realities, several claims and views expressed by the RA Prime Minister during yesterday's press conference have raised concerns, as they do not correspond to the ideas of the nationwide struggle, as well as the position adopted by the people and authorities of the Republic of Artsakh.
We are aware of all the consequences that arise from our adopted political line and reaffirm our position that the sovereignty of Artsakh and the right to live freely and independently in the historical homeland are absolute values. No coercion or threat can deter us from continuing the struggle.
Accordingly, we appeal to the international community to assume responsibility for preventing the terrorist actions undertaken by Azerbaijan, the planned ethnic cleansing, and the new genocide being prepared.
The people of the Republic of Artsakh and the authorities are sure that the diaspora Armenians will continue to support the decision made by their brothers and sisters in Artsakh. They urge the RA authorities to be guided exclusively by the position of advancing and protecting the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh in international courts, using all the opportunities and all the tools of the internationally recognized state.
