Iran expects the lifting of the blockade in exchange for TRIPP. Gandaharian

Radar Armenia's interlocutor is international affairs expert Shahan Gandaharian.

- Iran has spoken out against the TRIPP program regarding the South Caucasus. According to Velayati, it poses a serious threat to the country's security. What does this mean?

- Iran was putting forward two directions in terms of TRIPP. The circle of the spiritual leader was against this project, while the president's entourage was first silent, then more reserved, even declaring that Iran's interests were not threatened. This is not an intra-Iranian contradiction; more precisely, it is a distribution of roles. The ups and downs of Tehran's statements are closely tied to those of Tehran-Washington relations.

- Is their problem only with the US, or, nevertheless, this program can be an alternative for them, and economically unprofitable?

- Syunik is the safest lifeline for Iran to be unblocked. On the one hand, Iran sees in these projects the presence of other forces in its border areas; on the other hand, it is considering new ways to be blockaded.

- To what extent will Iran's position hinder the implementation and operation of the TRIPP program?

- TRIPP is a complex program—new channels for unblocking under American control, in which Iran is also involved. The US goal is to control all directions.

- Let's also touch on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The European Union has approved a 90 billion-euro loan to Ukraine. What does this mean, and what consequences will it have?

- Europe, based on the current status quo, does not want an agreement. By supporting Ukraine, Europe is trying to keep the threat of Russia at bay. It turns out that NATO is approaching Russia through the Scandinavian territories, and Russia is approaching Europe through the Ukrainian territories.

- Is the negotiation process frozen here, or are there still events taking place that are not visible?

- Apparently frozen, in fact, the ties continue. If they are not officially announced, it does not mean that the relationship has been severed. Directly or indirectly.
