The US is forced to return to a policy of pressure on Russia. Political Scientist

US President Donald Trump has announced that the US has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, which would be enough to "blow up the world 150 times." In response, the Russian Defense Minister has suggested starting preparations for nuclear tests.

Radar Armenia spoke to political scientist Robert Ghevondyan on the topic.

-How would you comment on this statement that the United States has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, which would be enough to "blow up the world 150 times"?

-Trump said nothing new. Indeed, the US nuclear arsenal is clearly the largest in the world. Moreover, not only nuclear, but also the military capabilities of the United States in general exceed those of the rest of the world combined, so Trump's announcement was not surprising.

-The Russian Defense Minister has suggested starting preparations for nuclear tests in response to US actions. What does this mean?

-That is the logic of the geopolitical conflict, Russia, of course, in the sense that no one will win in a nuclear war, where there are not 150 worlds for the United States to blow up, once is enough, and Russia can blow it up once too. In this sense, Russia's response has a certain logic. Still, we must also consider that both Trump's statement and the statements of various Russian officials have only the logic of warning each other. I should also note that the danger of a nuclear action occurring at some point is one that we cannot entirely rule out.

-And in general, why did they start making such statements? Is there a message or subtext here?

-The main reason is that Trump actually failed to fulfill his campaign promise to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war. Ultimately, in the United States, Trump himself came to realize that the optimistic expectations he had about Russia's rationality were unfounded. In reality, the Russian leadership's attitude towards geopolitical and regional processes is irrational, and the United States is compelled to adopt a policy of pressure.
