Trump presented a plan that is tailored to other actors. Badalyan

US President Donald Trump has announced that an agreement has been reached between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas on the implementation of the first phase of his proposed peace plan.

Radar Armenia’s interlocutor on the topic is political commentator Hakob Badalyan.

-How would you comment on this circumstance?

-Trump undoubtedly played a significant role. We know he announced he presented a plan for a settlement, and, of course, that means he played a role, but Trump, as always, tends to increase his role significantly. That settlement was achieved, or at least is completed, under the condition of the agreement of the remaining actors. Trump presented a plan that is also adapted to the other actors. It is clear that, in general, no country today, taken separately, can establish a particular situation on any individual square of the world chessboard. If an agreement is needed on any issue and a stable regime is to be established, this becomes possible only through the combination of comprehensive interests. Here, this circumstance occurred, taking into account the declared ceasefire and the settlement plan that has received quite visible chances of being implemented.

-Will it be possible to go for that solution, and not to resume hostilities after one or two steps?

-There is no doubt that the problem remains. Until it is resolved profoundly, again in accordance with the logic of combining the interests of stakeholders of different caliber, it can clearly explode. This is by no means the first ceasefire not only in the Gaza issue, but in the Middle East in general. Many times, it has been announced that this or that conflict issue will be resolved or that agreements will be reached, but we see that the region has remained in an explosive state, with outbreaks occurring. The reason is that the interests of key players fighting over the world order collide in the Middle East, which remains one of the main hotbeds of geopolitics. Now, any individual conflict can be effectively resolved if it is placed in the context of an equally effective security, a broader regional architecture.

-Will this also have a direct or indirect impact on the Russian-Ukrainian war, which Trump is also taking steps to stop?

-I do not think that there will be a direct or indirect impact on the Ukrainian war, because the situation in Ukraine is reaching a new level of tension, and here, it seems, not, of course, in a global sense, active, but in an organic sense, it seems to be separate processes. It is natural that these major players, in this case, the United States and Russia, in their discussions so far have touched on issues, of course, in a global context, but we hardly have a direct connection.
