"Operations to crack down on Iranian proxy bases are being carried out." Gandaharian

Radar Armenia's interlocutor is international affairs expert Shahan Gandaharian.

- The most important event of the past week was the Trump-Putin and Trump-Zelensky phone calls. What is your impression of the ongoing processes? Are the parties still far from peace or, at least, the establishment of a ceasefire or not?

A US-Russian agreement has been reached at Ukraine's expense. The negotiations have progressed so far that the two powers want to divide Ukraine: one will receive some territories, the other mines, resources, and even nuclear centers. The course of the ceasefire and further agreements depend on this.

- At the same time, the US continued its harsh rhetoric towards Iran, and there was also Trump's letter to Iran. Is a new hotbed of tension brewing here? Will actions be on the ground, or will they not go beyond rhetoric?

- The actions have already come a long way and have been effective. In Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and now in Yemen, a military policy of weakening and destroying Iranian proxy military bases is underway. The "weaken, strike, and negotiate" tactic is working. Despite all this, continuing negotiations and reaching agreements are not ruled out.

- In this context, I would also like to address the resumption of military operations in the Gaza Strip by Iran's adversary, Israel, and the claims that from now on, they will negotiate under fire. Why did the agreements reach the last 2-3 months?

- It seems that Tel Aviv was not satisfied with the ceasefire conditions. It wants to get the most. It has decided to go for radical solutions. A completely new Gaza, with a new status and new authorities. Only after that will negotiations on the "two-state" formula begin. The second state, in Israel's view, will be weak, "unbiased" and controllable. Therefore, it tries not to miss the opportunity and go for maximum results. The resumption of these actions would not have happened if Israel had not received the green light from the United States. This momentum of actions against Gaza fits into the series of recent actions aimed at breaking Iranian proxies and securing US patronage and participation.
