Yesterday, Armenia and the USA signed a document on strategic partnership. What will Armenia get by signing this document?
Armenia will at least realize that it is finally a state and cannot be ruled unilaterally by the Kremlin from that document.
- Does signing this document guarantee security and peace in Armenia?
- No document can guarantee security, even if it is sealed with God. Let's remember the biblical covenant between God and the Jews. Something closer to a guarantee can only be given by realizing the sobriety God gave us but less practiced in us. And the guarantee of peace is our inner peace. Khorenatsi repeats. "And there is no peace for the wicked." We cannot show fifty years on the planet without wars. The history of humanity is a history of wars, occasionally interspersed with peace. Something close to the guarantee of real peace can be the peace of our souls, boundless love, and unceasing dedication to the values that "for many centuries our deep Spirit gave birth in the Armenian mountains," said Tumanyan. In the case of that love and dedication, the hyenas of the world decide whether to break our peace.
- There are claims that this document is exclusively about American interests and contains additional risks for Armenia. In your opinion, does the document signing on the Armenian-American partnership contain any dangers for Armenia?
- Of course, the Russians and Russian agents must claim that this document is exclusively for American interests and contains only additional risks for us. However, the sobriety mentioned above suggests that everything has two ends. With the birth of a child also comes the inevitable death; now what, not to live life or not to have a child—that would be the greatest unnaturalness and blasphemy? Of course, this document will also bring with it serious risks. Our country's wise minds aim to ensure the reduction and circumvention of risks, especially since as much as the USA needed this document, so did we, both as a weighty security cushion and an opportunity for civilizational harmonization.
- In your opinion, does the document signing on the Armenian-American partnership contain any dangers for Armenia?
- First of all, we must realize that the statement of Armenia or any other country is not eternal but a political tool. Second, Russia is currently (and beneficially) on the path of weakening and fundamental reformation. Hence, the anxiety of the Russian elite is quite understandable, which, in the case of Ukraine, led to today's Russian-Ukrainian war. The dying person always makes irregular howls and movements. The public speech of the CSTO General Secretary is one of those howls and movements. They are rivals. If Ukraine was abandoned on this day for Ukrainian independent orientation, then our country was abandoned on the same day, tearing off Artsakh and mutilating even our identity. Unfortunately, we did not try any independent orientation. So we have already paid more for Russian "friendship." On the other hand, a dying and collapsing bear can cost the lives of small animals that happened to be next to it at that moment. They can stay under the dead body of the defeated one (this happened once when only our motherland remained under the dead body of the Ottoman Empire). Now, multiple cautions should be our main ally.
It is vital to determine whether the Trump administration will continue to work with Armenia within the framework of this document. What is your opinion about this?
- Your concern is genuine. The world order established after the Second World War is fundamentally changing; the agreements that ensured fragile peace are not being maintained. Not only is Russia tearing territories from Ukraine, but also, for the first time, the new president of the USA is announcing Greenland and Panama. Therefore, I don't know until the end whether the contract signed with the outgoing administration will work in full accordance with the spirit and letter of the contract. Do you remember the visit of the departing Philos to Armenia? You need to be extremely careful and not lose your head, as we once lost while waiting for Sevres.
- What effect will signing this document have on the processes of demarcation and the signing of the peace agreement?
This agreement will not have any tangible effect on delimitation. Finally, let's understand that the deal is not to separate borders or establish peace but to establish a ratio in the region between the forces and capabilities of the USA and the Russian Federation.
- Is it from this document that expectations are not exaggerated?
- Yes, both expectations and fears are exaggerated.
