Interview

"The region's forces have not yet reached an agreement on point 9." Gantaharyan

Radar Armenia's interlocutor is Shahan Gantaharyan, an international scholar.

- IAEA director Grossi arrived in Iran to negotiate with officials. How do you interpret his visit?

The director of the IAEA's visit to Iran is spectacular. The prospects for freezing, straining, or de-freezing West-Iran relations depend on this node. Iran's ambassador to Armenia's statement that Iran is not an ally of Russia sends a message to the West. In this way, Iran signals to the US that it is positive towards the nuclear deal and expects the formation of a subsoil that contributes to the blockade of Iran.

- Will there be any progress on the unresolved issues of guarantees after this visit or not?

The general trend will continue without breakthroughs or sharp turns. There will be stops, but the trend will continue. This is a new phase of negotiations that fits into the general philosophy of the current world order.

- Nikol Pashinyan, referring to his and Aliyev's contacts in Kazan, stated that the next important event was the possibility of a solution to the issue of opening regional communications.

- Baku, in this case, Ankara's position about the proposed corridor or de-blockade is also changing. The point of the corridor is removed from the peace project, and there is also talk of building a connection with Nakhichevan via Iran. These are official statements full of contradictions. However, the whole point is related to the status of the Nakhichevan-Azerbaijan connection. And here, it is already clear that the work of this project depends on more than just Turkey and Azerbaijan, even including the USA.

- The Azerbaijani side announced that negotiations on settling Armenian-Azerbaijani relations will continue in December. What developments can happen at the end of the year?

- No document will be signed before the end of the year. Azerbaijan continues to torpedo the process, endlessly renewing its preconditions. The main precondition remains the corridor he proposed, over which there are disagreements between the leading players in the region. It should not be forgotten that the 9th point of "November 9" discussed unblocking the region. The leading players in the area have yet to reach an agreement.
