Interview

"The whole loop is related to the status of the channels passing through Syunik. the rest are secondary issues." Gantaharyan

The interlocutor of Radar Armenia is international expert Shahan Gantaharyan.

The Armenian side proposed a bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan, but the Azerbaijani side rejected the proposal. Baku claims the opposite, blaming Armenia. Why didn't the meeting take place? What is the motive of the real destroyer?

- The reasons why the meeting did not occur will still be clarified. It should be noted, however, Miller's statements after the tripartite meeting in Washington that incredible progress has been made, that the American side will only rest once there is a peace treaty, and that the parties must accept complex and challenging concessions. At the same time, Ankara announced that the last point of the peace agreement would be completed through the Zangezur corridor, and Baku constantly demanded a change in the constitution. These circumstances should be considered in order to understand why the London meeting did not occur.

- In this situation, how do you see the prospect of signing a peace treaty?

- Baku is trying to take maximum advantage of its winning position. Moscow is losing its role as a mediator. The West welcomes the bilateral format of the negotiations, which means that it is satisfied with the expulsion of the Russian mediation, the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem demands a corridor, and Iran rejects any changes to its border with Armenia. In these problematic geopolitical conditions, it is unlikely that the contract will be signed. The entire loop is related to the status of the channels passing through Syunik. The rest are derivative problems.

- Nikol Pashinyan met with French President Macron in London. "It is normal to respond to the request of a sovereign country that wants weapons and has a premonition that another country may attack it," Macron said about the sale of French weapons to Armenia. What effect will such statements have on the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations?

- Macron's statement is directed against Moscow. By supplying Armenia with weapons, Paris is working under the guise of diversifying Armenia's security to destroy Moscow's monopoly and penetrate Russian domains.

Armenian-Azerbaijani relations will be balanced when there is a balance of forces. Otherwise, Azerbaijan states that it will not stop its demands from Yerevan.

- US Deputy Secretary of State Uzra Zeya announced that an American army representative will work in the RA Defense Ministry. What will this mean for Armenia in terms of security?

This is related to the statement of the US Deputy Secretary of State, which states that Armenia's membership will not hinder RA-US defense relations in the CSTO. It turns out that the American army representative works in the military of a CSTO member country. The USA does not condition the cooperation of the military sphere with Yerevan on withdrawing RA from the CSTO. But, after some time, Washington will consider that demand.
