Interview

"Aliyev should not be credited with omnipotence." Vahram Atanesyan

Radar Armenia's interlocutor is Vahram Atanesyan, a former member of the Central Committee of Armenia and the NKR National Assembly.

- The European Union calls on Azerbaijan to preserve and guarantee the rights of Karabakh Armenians, including the right to return to their homes. Can these statements have any significance and affect Aliyev?

- Any statement will be of practical significance if 150,000 forcibly displaced people show a collective will to return to Artsakh. Unfortunately, no such position has been expressed so far. Aliyev should not be ascribed omnipotence.

- On February 7, 2024, extraordinary presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan, whereas the regular presidential elections are scheduled for 2025.

- The first impression is that it relates to the same year's presidential elections in Russia and the United States. There is no doubt about Putin's re-election. Aliyev will probably work for Donald Trump to win in the USA.

- Why is Aliyev going to the early elections? In your opinion, how close and realistic is the signing of the peace treaty?

- Armenia and Azerbaijan were not in a formal war to sign a peace treaty. Any agreement should be titled "Relationship Agreement". A package solution is impossible; therefore, Armenian diplomacy should propose that the parties sign a framework agreement on establishing relations and leave the rest of the issues to be settled by separate contracts.
