Czech central bank takes historic step. Reuters

The Czech central bank announced that it had acquired nearly $1 million in bitcoin and other blockchain-based assets for pilot purposes, marking the first time a European central bank has entered into such a deal involving digital assets.

The bank stated that the move was made to gain experience in an ideal environment, allowing them to understand how the entire digital asset ecosystem works.

The pilot portfolio consists primarily of bitcoin, as well as stablecoins pegged to the US dollar and one tokenized deposit. The assets were purchased through a regulated exchange and are held separately from the bank’s international reserves.
