Chinese university presents new artificial intelligence model for agriculture

The Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring SNCO reports:

China Agricultural University (CAU) unveiled the 3.0 version of the Shennong large-scale model at the 2025 World Agri-Food Innovation Forum (WAFI 2025) in Beijing, marking an important step towards making artificial intelligence in agriculture more accessible and practical.

This new model significantly reduces computational requirements and increases productivity, laying a solid foundation for future smart agriculture.

The model is named after Shennong, a revered figure in Chinese mythology, known as the “Divine Peasant” and considered the person who transmitted agricultural expertise and the use of medicinal plants to the ancient Chinese.

Along with the large-scale model, the team also unveiled an agent platform that enables the development of a lightweight, deployable, and collaborative artificial intelligence ecosystem. The platform covers the entire agricultural chain and offers 36 specialized agents, classified into six primary areas, including intelligent selection, planting, and farming.

The launch of Shennong Large Model 3.0 heralds a new stage in the development of agricultural artificial intelligence, characterized by high efficiency, ease of use, and technological self-sufficiency, thereby laying a solid foundation for the future of smart agriculture.

Shennong Large Model 3.0 is developed on a large-scale, specialized agricultural database that integrates more than 10 million agrarian knowledge graphs, 50 million records of modern farm production data, and 20,000 agricultural monographs.
The WAFI-2025 gathering was attended by nearly 780 experts from both China and abroad, serving as a world-class platform to promote global agri-food innovations.
