In the world’s largest film industry, India, a new “star” has emerged: artificial intelligence (AI). While Hollywood actors and screenwriters have resisted the penetration of AI, Indian cinema is rapidly incorporating it into its creative and production processes.

Director Vivek Anchalia created his romantic film almost entirely with the help of AI, using ChatGPT and Midjourney. As a result, the film’s budget was only 15% of that of a traditional Bollywood production. AI is being used everywhere in India, from “rejuvenating” actors to voice cloning and pre-visualization.
