The world's tallest Christmas tree, 45 meters high, was lit up in the German city of Dortmund on November 24. City authorities claim it is entirely made of real trees. The giant Christmas tree was formed from about 1,200 red firs. Their total weight is about 40 tons. The upper part is decorated with a 4-meter-high angel, and 138,000 LED lights illuminate it.
This Christmas tree in Dortmund has been installed every year since 1996 and is the main symbol of the "Christmas City". More than 300 pavilions surround it.
