Time on Mars passes slightly faster on average than on Earth, by about 477 microseconds. The reason is Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity: time depends on gravity and speed of movement.
Mars’ gravity is weak, and its orbit around the Sun is more elliptical, which makes clocks “tick a little faster.” This will affect the accuracy of future navigation and communication systems planned for Mars.
Scientists say that even that slight difference is essential for high-precision technologies, such as 5G and Martian GPS systems.
