The first copy of Superman has sold for $9.12 million at an auction in Texas, making it the most expensive comic book ever sold.

Three brothers discovered the comic while they were cleaning out their deceased mother's house in San Francisco last year. The collection had been stored in a straw box in the house's attic, under newspapers and sheets.

According to the vice president of comics at Heritage Auctions, the brothers contacted the auctioneers, and he personally traveled to San Francisco to evaluate the comic and present it to experts.

"Superman No. 1" was published in 1939 by Detective Comics and is now known for having only a few surviving copies worldwide. The comic is in excellent condition, with strong boards, bright colors, and hard corners, which also increases its value.
