Meta announced that in the coming weeks, Instagram’s teen users will see only content that meets their parental control level by default and will not be able to change those settings without parental permission.
This new policy will allow teen users to see photos and videos that are not harmful. At the same time, a stricter Limited Content setting is being introduced, which parents can enable to limit further the content their children see.
In addition, experts found that Instagram offered teens posts related to self-harm, body image flaws, or unhealthy eating habits, which could negatively affect their mental health. Meta emphasizes that this step aims to create a safer, more balanced digital environment for teens by strengthening parental controls.
