Euronews writes that one of the most famous names in the world of performance art, Marina Abramović, has presented her new and most significant project, “Balkan Erotic Epic”, which opened on October 9 at the Aviva Studios in Manchester and will last until October 19.
This time, Abramović has touched on the themes of eroticism, faith, and Balkan rituals. The performance combines about 70 singers, dancers, and musicians, who create a four-hour ritual full of symbolic actions, bodily gestures, and deep cultural layers.
“Today, everything that has to do with eroticism is called pornography. And I want to return to my Slavic roots and show the connection of the human body and soul with the universe. This is the most ambitious work of my career,” Abramović said.
The “Balkan Erotic Epic” is seen as a new chapter in Abramović’s creative life.
The artist will celebrate her 80th birthday next year.
