On this day in 1939, the American television network NBC broadcast the first televised football game. It was a student match between the Fordham and Waynesburg teams. Fordham won 34-7.
And in 1947, the first baseball World Series was broadcast on television. The New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-3 in the first game. The Yankees later won the entire series.
