A white dwarf star 'swallowed' an icy body like Pluto

NASA reported that the Hubble Space Telescope has discovered a rare phenomenon: a white dwarf star located approximately 260 light-years away has consumed an icy, planet-sized fragment similar to Pluto.

According to the study, approximately 64% of the body's composition is water ice. In addition, carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen were found in it - elements that indicate the presence of water. Previously, the White Dwarf was a sun-like star. After exhausting its fuel, it became a dense stellar remnant and pulled Pluto in with its powerful gravity. As a result, the body fragmented, and Hubble captured the remains with its spectrographic equipment.

The scientific team also plans to use the James Webb Space Telescope to study the white dwarf and icy fragments using infrared rays.
