Spain threatens to boycott Eurovision if Israel takes part in the contest

Spain has joined the ranks of countries that have announced that they will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest unless Israel is expelled from the contest due to the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

The Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia had previously made similar statements. Spain’s joining this demand increases the pressure on both Israel and the contest’s organizer, the European Broadcasting Union.

The decision was made by Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE during a board meeting in Madrid.

The final decision is expected to be made in mid-December.

Russia was expelled from Eurovision in 2022 due to its invasion of Ukraine, while Israel has continued to participate in the past two years.

The Eurovision 2025 final is scheduled for May in Vienna, Austria.
