Astronauts made sushi in space

Cooking even the simplest dish on the International Space Station (ISS) becomes a real mission. In the microgravity of space, everything is special: food is vacuum-packed, forks and spoons are attached with magnets, and bowls are fastened with Velcro.

But that doesn’t stop astronauts from creating small “taste wonders.” Recently, the ISS crew decided to cook “space sushi.” The astronauts used the most accessible “cosmic” ingredients: rice, tuna, seaweed, spam, crackers, and various spices.

Space sushi is nothing new. In February 2010, Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi became the first to take fresh seafood into space, sharing this experience with his teammates. Since then, sushi has become a unique tradition.
