British singer Sting has once again found himself at the center of a scandal: members of his former band The Police, guitarist Andy Summers and pianist Stuart Copeland, have filed a lawsuit in London’s High Court demanding millions of pounds in lost royalties.
The lawsuit was filed after years of unsuccessful negotiations. Lawyers tried to reach an out-of-court settlement, but the parties were at an impasse. “There was no other option. Litigation was inevitable,” a source told The Sun. It is known that Sting earns about 550,000 pounds a year from the song “Every Breath You Take” alone. It was one of the best-selling hits of the 1980s. However, the other members of the group did not receive royalties from the song, since they were not officially listed as authors.
