Johnny Depp could return to Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp could return for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who recently discussed the idea with the actor, telling Entertainment Weekly: “If he likes the way the script is written, I think he’ll be open to it.”

Depp starred in the first five Pirates films from 2003 to 2017, each of which grossed more than $650 million worldwide. Two movies, Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and On Stranger Tides (2011), have grossed more than $1 billion. The franchise has grossed an estimated $4.5 billion worldwide.

Depp’s last major Hollywood studio film was Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018). The actor was replaced in the next installment after losing a defamation case in the UK against The Sun newspaper. In the US, the court case with Amber Heard ended more favorably for Depp.
