Many people dream of one day living on Mars, but for many years, one major obstacle has been the availability of water. However, new studies show that finding water is not as difficult as they thought. It turns out that there are ice sheets on Mars, and more than 80% of the planet’s surface is made up of ice.
Researchers have refined their methods to try to unravel the mystery of Mars’ ice sheets. Using NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been orbiting the planet for nearly 20 years, scientists have found that the ice sheets are covered in rock and dust. Interestingly, the ratio of water to rock in different parts of Mars, even in the northern and southern hemispheres, is almost the same.
