The studies revealed that the “Infinity Galaxy” contains an active, supermassive black hole. But the most unexpected thing was that it is located not in one of the two galactic nuclei, but right between them, in the area of a giant gas cloud.
The researchers suggest that the black hole may have formed right there, not from a stellar explosion (as is usually the case), but directly from the accumulation of a considerable amount of gas. If confirmed, this could be the first observed example of such a phenomenon in the universe.
