Johnny Depp's new film will open the Cannes Film Festival

World-famous Hollywood actor Johnny Depp's first film since the defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard has been chosen as the opening film of next month's Cannes Film Festival in France. The organizers announced this.

The French-language film "Jeanne du Barry" stars director Maiven Le Besco as Jeanne Becoux, a woman who rises from poverty to join the circle of King Louis XV. Depp plays the king in the film, which will have its world premiere on May 16 in Cannes.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has had a few film or television appearances since his trial ended in June 2022.
