The 20th anniversary concert season of the Armenian Symphony Orchestra has opened

The 20th anniversary concert season of the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia was announced with the 9th “Armenia” International Music Festival, during which a series of symphonic concerts will be presented to classical music lovers.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, and Deputy Minister Daniel Danielyan attended the first concert.

Welcoming the start of the 20th anniversary concert season of the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, the Minister emphasized that the audience will witness a significant program not only in Armenia, but also abroad.

“The State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia is actively touring various countries. In the near future, there will be tours in Germany and the Middle East. The Aram Khachaturian International Competition has already become a significant event in China. It is a special pride that our audience can enjoy high-quality music, tourists visiting our country can listen to the high art that also sounds on international stages, at the most prestigious festivals.

I am happy that the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, continuing the state policy of revitalizing cultural life in the regions of the Republic of Armenia, will have concerts in Lori, Shirak, Syunik, and Vayots Dzor. I am sure that the citizens of the areas will look forward to these concerts with great impatience. The consistent policy of bringing high culture to the regions is ongoing. Every settlement in Armenia is becoming a center of cultural life, and the symphony orchestra is an active participant in it.

The fact that the symphony orchestra pays particular attention to the performance of works by Armenian composers is also noteworthy. The orchestra also records the works of Armenian composers, preserving, popularizing, and disseminating Armenian classical music and art,” said Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Zhanna Andreasyan, expressing gratitude to the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia for its work.

During the first concert of the “Armenia” festival, music lovers listened to Aram Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto, performed by violinist Darius Proys and conducted by conductor Sergey Smbatyan, as well as other works by Khachaturian. Works by renowned Armenian composers Edward Mirzoyan and John Ter-Tadevosyan were also performed.

The following concerts of the festival will take place on September 23, 30, and October 6. Pianist Olga Sheps, pianist and conductor Epifanio Comis, and flutist Tommaso Bencholini will perform. The concerts will be conducted by Sergey Smbatyan, artistic director and principal conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, and guest conductors Epifanio Comis and Ni Fan.

During the concert season, the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia will perform at traditional festivals that are loved by the audience.

New recordings and collaborations, concert tours are also planned. In particular, the jubilee 20th concert season of the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia will be marked by an unprecedented tour to Germany. From November 16 to December 2, at the invitation of renowned concert halls in 15 cities in Germany, the orchestra, led by Sergey Smbatyan, will perform alongside famous artists, presenting Armenian performing and compositional art, as well as masterpieces of classical music.
