Rubens' masterpiece, thought lost since 1613, was found in Paris

A work by the renowned Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens, which had been considered lost since 1613, has been discovered in a private residence in Paris.

The authenticity of the masterpiece has been confirmed by the organization studying the creative heritage of Rubens. The valuable work will be auctioned on November 30.

“Christ Crucified” was painted in 1613. It was considered lost for many years.

The canvas was created during the peak of Rubens’s creative work, and its authenticity was confirmed by a professor specializing in German, Flemish, and Dutch art of the 15th-16th centuries.

It is the starting point of the Baroque genre. The painting depicts the luminous figure of the crucified Christ against the backdrop of a gloomy and threatening sky.

According to the auctioneer, the canvas is in excellent condition.
