Memorandum of Understanding between the History Museum of Armenia and the British Museum

The delegation, led by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Alfred Kocharyan, is on a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from September 7-10. The delegation includes the Director of the History Museum of Armenia, Davit Poghosyan, the Director of the Y. Charents Museum of Literature and Art, Suzanna Khojamiryan, and the Director of the National Gallery of Armenia, Marina Hakobyan.

Within the framework of the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed in London between the History Museum of Armenia and the British Museum. The memorandum was signed on the Armenian side by the Director of the History Museum of Armenia, Davit Poghosyan, and on the British side by the Director of the British Museum, Nicholas Cullinan.

The official ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Varuzhan Nersisyan, members of the official delegation of the Republic of Armenia, heads of departments of the British Museum, and invited scholars.

In his welcoming speech, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan highlighted the opportunity to deepen cultural and professional dialogue between the two museums, emphasizing that the signed document establishes new prospects for cooperation. According to him, the exhibition "Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mariam," organized jointly with the British Museum at the History Museum of Armenia in 2024, is one of the critical points of the cultural agenda of the dynamic and developing cooperation between Armenia and the United Kingdom, which is also a solid basis for the development of further cooperation.

Alfred Kocharyan expressed confidence that the memorandum will deepen intercultural cooperation, contributing to the expansion of partnership, the formation of new ties, and the development of cultural exchanges.

Within the framework of their visit to the United Kingdom, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan, Director of the Museum of Literature and Art Suzanna Khojamiryan, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the UK Varuzhan Nersesyan visited the British Library. They got acquainted with the library's collections and working environment. As a result of the discussions, an agreement was reached on new cooperation.

The Deputy Minister also visited other cultural institutions.
