Armenia to participate in Leipzig Book Fair

Armenia will participate in the Leipzig International Book Fair with a separate pavilion from March 27-30.

The Leipzig International Book Fair is a significant platform for cooperation and communication, bringing together literary communities, readers, government agencies, publishing houses, literary agencies, translators, private companies, and media professionals worldwide.

Within the framework of the exhibition fair, programs will be presented in national and individual pavilions, where dialogues, discussions, events, exhibitions, meetings, and performances will be held.

The RA Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will present the Armenian National Pavilion in cooperation with the National Library of Armenia and the Avetik-Isahakyan House Museum. The Armenian pavilion will feature books on historical and cultural heritage published in recent years with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and works by Armenian classical and modern authors.

The RA Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "Armenian Literature in Translation Grant" program will be critical in the pavilion's activities. Within the framework of this program, implemented with publishers from Armenia and abroad, the Ministry provides partial grants to foreign publishers who are ready to publish works by Armenian classical and modern authors in their country.

Avetik Isahakyan Memorial Plaque to Be Unveiled in Leipzig

Armenia's participation in the Leipzig International Book Fair this year is also largely aimed at commemorating the 150th anniversary of the great Armenian poet Avetik Isahakyan, disseminating his works, and proclaiming his name.

In cooperation with the RA Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Leipzig Municipality, a memorial plaque to Avetik Isahakyan, entitled "Identity," will be unveiled on March 25 at Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse 27. Avetik Isahakyan lived at the address mentioned during his studies at the University of Leipzig.

The plaque will present information about the poet's Leipzig years while also stating that Isahakyan, along with Johannes Lepsius and Josef Marquardt, was one of the founders of the Armenian-German Society. The black tuff of Gyumri will also be attached to the plaque as a symbol of Armenianness, which Isahakyan loved very much. His house in Yerevan was also built with that stuff. A QR code on the plaque will allow people to watch a German video about the relationship between Isahakyan and Germany.

After the plaque's opening, a classical music concert will occur in the Alte Börse Hall. Songs written based on Isahakyan's poems will be performed.

Events will be held in various pavilions within the framework of the exhibition.

Let us recall that the agreement on Armenia's participation in the 2025 Leipzig International Book Fair was reached in 2024 within the framework of the working visit of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan to the Federal Republic of Germany. The Minister discussed cooperation programs at a meeting with the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkard Jung. The Director of the Leipzig Book Fair, Astrid Böhmisch, also attended the meeting, during which an agreement was reached on Armenia's participation in the Leipzig Book Fair.

It should be noted that last year, 2,085 exhibitors from 40 countries, 283,000 visitors, 55,000 industry specialists, and 3,131 journalists and media representatives participated in the Leipzig International Book Fair, which was founded in 1632.
