The first edition of Harry Potter was sold at an auction for about 56 thousand dollars

A first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone sold for £45,000 (about $55,600) at a UK rare book auction.

The BBC reported, citing Hansons Auctioneers, that the book is one of 500 hardcover copies first printed in 1997.

The book, estimated at £30,000-50,000, was bought from a bookshop in 1997 for £10.

It was reported earlier that a watercolor illustration of the first book in the series by Joan Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was sold at auction for $1.9 million.
