US President Donald Trump told reporters before meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin that he hoped something would come of these talks.
According to the US president, Putin believes that the ongoing attacks on Ukraine give him strength, but it hurts him more.
He added that the issue of territorial exchanges would be discussed, but he would allow Ukraine to make that decision.
“The issue of territorial exchanges is on the negotiating table, but Ukraine should make those decisions. I think they will make the right decision.”
The American leader also said that the negotiations are not ruled out, discussing security guarantees for Kyiv. Trump did not rule out the possibility of the US providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
“Maybe with Europe and other countries. Not in the form of NATO, because that will not happen. Some things will not happen. But, yes, there is a possibility with Europe,” he said.
