The signing of the joint declaration between the United States, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in Washington confirmed Baku’s commitment to the peace agenda.
This was stated by Elchin Amirbekov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Peace, in an interview with NE Global.
“The provision contained in the document on the initialing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia recognizes the need for further steps towards the signing and ratification of this agreement. In other words, for this to become possible, Baku expects amendments to the Armenian constitution to eliminate the remaining territorial claims against Azerbaijan,” he noted.
Amirbekov also drew attention to another critical point of the declaration: the obligation to open transport and communications between the two countries, in particular, the need to ensure unhindered communication between the mainland of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan.
