Ukraine is approaching Russia with military spending

Global military spending will reach $2.443 trillion in 2023, up 6.8% in real terms from 2022, according to a report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on April 22. This is the sharpest increase since 2009. The US, China, and Russia have also increased their military spending.

In 2023, Kyiv's military spending accounted for 59% of Russia's defense spending. Meanwhile, Ukraine received at least $35 billion in military aid over a year, $25.4 billion of which came from the United States. This aid and Ukraine's military spending were equivalent to about 91% of Russia's military expenditures.
