Blinken called on Aliyev to release those unjustly arrested

There was also a telephone conversation between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.

The Secretary of State thanked Aliyev for last week's announcement that Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to use the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration as a basis for border demarcation and emphasized the importance of both sides achieving a lasting and dignified peace.

The Secretary of State called on President Aliyev to maintain the momentum of negotiations with his Armenian counterpart, reaffirming the United States' readiness to support these efforts.

Blinken also called on Azerbaijan to observe international obligations to protect human rights and to release those unjustly arrested in Azerbaijan.
