The US Senate may approve the sale of F-16s to Turkey

Sources of the US Congress inform that amendments to block the possible sale of Turkey's F-16 aircraft will be excluded from the 2023 Fiscal Year National Debt Act (NDAA) bill submitted to the US Senate.  The amendments, which would ban Ankara from supplying fighter jets and their parts, were proposed by Democratic senators Bob Menendez and Chris Van Hollen.

The House-approved version of the law included amendments similar to those proposed by Van Hollen and Menendez. However, it is not expected to find a place in the joint text of the NDAA agreed upon by both houses of the US Congress. After the vote in the Senate, the document must be submitted to the House of Representatives for discussion, and if it is also approved there, it will be sent to the US President for signature.

The Van Hollen-Menendez amendments provided several restrictions on selling F-16s and components for their upgrades to Turkey.
