The US ambassador to the OSCE emphasizes the protection of human rights of the entire population of the region, including Nagorno Karabakh.

"Voice of America" reported that Michael Carpenter, the permanent representative of the USA in the OSCE, held a teleconference, where he answered several questions, including the issues related to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the settlement created in the South Caucasus, and the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.

In his speech, Ambassador Carpenter said in particular:

"The United States is deeply involved in the (South Caucasus) region. We are actively engaged in discussions on regulating relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We support the process between Armenia and Turkey and are deeply involved in Georgia. Phil Ricker, our newly appointed envoy to the Caucasus, was in Tbilisi, and we will continue the high-level dialogue with Georgia.

Ambassador Carpenter emphasized answering questions about the Karabakh conflict and the future of the Minsk Group.

"The United States recently appointed Phil Ricker as the new co-chairman of the Minsk Group. I think it's no secret that the Minsk Group currently does not hold meetings between the co-chairs due to Russia's aggression in Ukraine and other reasons. There is currently a peace process, led by EU Council President Charles Michel, with both sides, and the US strongly supports that process. We are also actively engaged in a bilateral format with both Armenia and Azerbaijan to facilitate the process where and when possible in close consultation with our EU partners," Carpenter said.

The American diplomat also added. "Our priority in Armenia and Azerbaijan is to support the normalization of relations between the two countries, to open transport and communication corridors in the region, and to establish friendly relations. And of course, the protection of human rights of the entire population in the region, including in Nagorno Karabakh, occupies a whole place," Ambassador Carpenter said.
