Garik Karapetyan, the vice-champion of the World Cup

European weightlifting champion Garik Karapetyan won a silver medal in the 102 kg weightlifting competition of the World Weightlifting Cup held in Phuket, Thailand, resulting in 401 kg (185+216) of the double event. Samvel Gasparyan, the other representative of Armenia in this weight class, refused to fight.

According to the results of the Pokum exercise, Karapetyan held a barbell weighing 216 kg above his head and won a small bronze medal. He was also 5th in the push exercise, resulting in 185 kg.

It should be noted that earlier, Andranik Karapetyan, who weighed 89 kg, entered the competition platform from the representatives of Armenia, but he received 0. On April 11, the platform will be given to super heavyweights. From 13:00, Varazdat Lalayan and Simon Martirosyan will fight +109 kg in weight.

The World Cup held in Thailand is the last ranking tournament of Armenian weightlifters before the Olympic Games in Paris. With the World Cup, Armenian weightlifters completed the 6 mandatory tournaments for Olympic ratings, which they had to participate in to earn relevant Olympic rating points.

Armenia will participate in the Paris Olympic Games with three weightlifters whose names have yet to be discovered. Armenia will not have a representative in the women's tournament. The 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
